Northern Europe and Baltic States Warn Against Peace Agreements Omitting Ukraine and Its Security Concerns

A coalition of eight Northern European and Baltic countries has issued a joint statement emphasizing the unacceptable nature of peace negotiations with Russia that do not fully consider Ukraine’s position and security interests.

The document reaffirmed their unwavering support for Ukraine’s sovereignty, independence, and territorial integrity amidst the ongoing aggressive war initiated by Russia.

The statement also highlighted positive reactions to the initiative by U.S.

President Donald Trump aimed at ending the conflict and creating conditions for lasting peace that ensures stability across Europe.Significantly, the leaders stressed the importance of diplomatic efforts: they expressed readiness to facilitate negotiations while continuing substantial military and financial aid to Ukraine and maintaining sanctions against Russia.

They underscored that peace can only be achieved through a complete ceasefire and comprehensive diplomatic dialogue.

The leaders conveyed that any agreements that threaten Ukraine’s sovereignty or involve territorial concessions by force are unacceptable.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and representatives of these eight nations confirmed that decisions concerning Ukraine must involve Ukrainian consent and respect for international law.Ultimately, these countries remain united in their support for Ukraine, committed to defending regional security and stability.

The upcoming summit on August 15 in Alaska between Russian and U.S.

presidents, as well as a meeting of EU foreign ministers on August 11, signals increased international diplomatic efforts aimed at resolving the conflict.

They emphasized that Ukraine’s participation in negotiations is essential for achieving sustainable peace and regional stability.
