Finland Plans Drastic Changes in Refugee Support: Cancellations of Integration Payments Raise Concerns

Under this cost-cutting initiative, the government intends to cease funding for key integration programs, such as language courses, employment assistance, and orientation lectures about life in Finland.

According to the Ministry of Finance, cancelling financial aid could help optimize the national budget and save over €300 million within two years.
The official discussion of this initiative is scheduled for the autumn, with the final decision to be made by the parliament.

Currently, approximately 71,000 Ukrainian refugees reside in Finland, and the European Union has extended temporary protection for Ukrainian citizens until 2027.
The report also highlights that financial restrictions are fueling rising tensions in host countries, with the Czech Republic experiencing fatigue from the influx of refugees amid economic difficulties.
