Drone Attack on Russian Cities: Oil Refinery Burned, Casualties and Evacuations

In the night from August 9 to 10, significant events unfolded in the Russian cities of Saratov and Engels.
Around 3 a.m., powerful explosions rocked these cities, frightening residents and drawing considerable attention from Russian media outlets.
Witnesses and reports indicate that approximately 15 explosions were heard in the skies above Saratov and Engels, with air defense systems activating and intercepting unmanned aerial vehicles.
Over one of Saratov’s districts, smoke billowed and a fire broke out, suggesting sabotage or direct hits.
Particular concern was raised by the damage to the local oil refinery targeted by drones.
Saratov governor Roman Busargin confirmed that some industrial facilities were damaged, and also reported one of the drones falling into a residential yard, leading to evacuations and the arrangement of a temporary shelter at a nearby school.
Casualties were reported, with at least one person confirmed dead.
These events coincide with ongoing drone strikes in the Tatarstan region, where attacks on “Shahid” drone production facilities were also documented.
Analysts and local residents remain on edge, as the situation continues to develop and heightened tensions persist.
