Border Interception in Zakarpattia: Custom Officers Halt Three Men Attempting to Cross into the EU Under Cover of Night and Mountain Terrain
In Ukraine’s western region of Zakarpattia, an incident underscored the intensified border control measures along the European Union frontier.
Border guards successfully detained three men attempting to illegally cross the state border, utilizing rugged mountainous terrain and the cover of night.
The suspicious activity was first reported by local residents and confirmed through surveillance technology, allowing prompt organizing of search and apprehension operations.
The incident occurred at night, just a few hundred meters from the border, when the group of violators tried to make an unlawful crossing into EU countries.
Upon noticing the border patrol, the men attempted to flee but were stopped after the security forces fired warning shots into the air and deployed a service dog.
Check procedures revealed that the detainees were local residents aged between 37 and 48, who sought to find better living conditions across the border.
They are now in custody and face charges related to attempting illegal border crossing and disobedience to law enforcement officials.
Notably, daily attempts at illegal border crossing are recorded along Ukraine’s western borders, highlighting the need for strengthened border security in this critical area.
