Ukraine is monitoring the emergence of a new strain of coronavirus, called Stratus.

According to the Center for Public Health and its acting director, Oleksii Danylenko, this variant has already been identified in seven regions—Vinnytsia, Dnipropetrovsk, Zhytomyr, Zaporizhia, Kyiv, Poltava, and Chernihiv regions—as well as in Kyiv city itself.

This indicates active spread, and experts note that Stratus has become one of the two dominant strains worldwide, alongside NB.1.8.1 (Nimbus), which has not yet been detected in Ukraine.Medical professionals highlight that Stratus shows a high transmissibility but does not lead to more severe disease outcomes.

Most cases exhibit mild symptoms, such as sore throat, hoarseness, and slight cough.

The vaccination remains the most effective protection against COVID-19, and adherence to preventive measures is strongly recommended. The Center for Public Health emphasizes that the COVID-19 situation in Ukraine is currently under control and does not place excessive strain on healthcare systems.

However, similar to last year, an increase in COVID-19 cases is observed during the summer months.

Over the past week, Ukraine recorded 684 cases compared to 494 cases the week before.

Health experts stress the importance of vaccination and safety measures to prevent the widespread transmission of the new strain and maintain a stable public health environment.
