In Vilnius, an important meeting took place between the presidents of Lithuania and Germany, Gitanas Nausėda and Frank-Walter Steinmeier. During the meeting, the leaders discussed crucial issues related to Europe's security situation and continued support for Ukraine’s fight for independence and territorial integrity. The main focus was on deepening strategic cooperation between the two nations in defense matters, as well as increasing pressure on Russia to destabilize its military ambitions and prevent further aggression. President Nausėda emphasized that Lithuania and Germany must act jointly and in harmony to ensure regional safety. He highlighted that Germany remains a key ally in guaranteeing stability and peace in Europe, and in supporting the Ukrainian people during this difficult period. The discussion also covered strategic investments in military mobility and joint military training, aimed at strengthening the defense capabilities of both countries. This event was preceded by an official statement from German officials indicating plans to deploy a new military brigade in Lithuania, which will help protect NATO’s eastern flank and promote regional stability. During his visit to Vilnius, Chancellor Friedrich Merz officially launched the first phase of the German military unit’s operation, contributing to the enhancement of defensive capacity and external security of NATO member states.
