Ukrainian Border Service Explains Incident with Russian Tricolor in Chernihiv Region

Recent events along Ukraine’s border with Russia have sparked significant attention and concern among Ukrainian military officials and local populations. Russian occupation forces once again demonstrated activity by raising their tricolor flag at the 'Gremyat' checkpoint located on the border with Chernihiv region. This action raised questions about Russian intentions and potential threats to Ukrainian security. However, according to Andriy Demchenko, spokesperson of the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine, this flag was promptly destroyed by Ukrainian soldiers—thanks to their vigilant aerial reconnaissance that quickly detected the situation and responded accordingly. Demchenko emphasized that the Russians did not establish a foothold at the checkpoint, and their activity has decreased, although the threat of sabotage groups still remains. He added that last month, a Russian sabotage reconnaissance group was discovered in Chernihiv region, attempting to detonate roads near the border, but Ukrainian forces responded immediately, opening fire. Furthermore, in November 2024, a second tricolor was found on a destroyed bridge over the Sudost River, indicating ongoing provocations and raising concerns about possible destabilization efforts in the region. These events highlight the importance of enhanced security measures and rapid response capabilities of Ukrainian forces to prevent large-scale provocations by the occupiers.
