The former U.S. President Donald Trump made a candid and surprisingly frank statement on Friday regarding the possibility of ending the ongoing Russia-Ukraine conflict. When asked by journalists whether he believed he could bring an end to the war in the future, Trump admitted that he was uncertain and said, 'I don't know. I can't tell you if it will happen.' This response surprised many analysts, as during his campaign, Trump repeatedly claimed he could quickly halt the conflict if in office. He later added that he supports efforts to find a peaceful resolution, emphasizing, 'I would like it to happen.' However, he also pointed out that the current war is primarily a matter for President Biden's administration, not himself, and expressed his willingness to act as a mediator between Kyiv and Moscow. Trump has long expressed frustration with the prolonged nature of the war and has even threatened to 'simply walk out' of the situation, showing his desire for a swift resolution. This week, he held phone conversations with both Russian President Vladimir Putin and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. According to Trump, his talks with Putin on Thursday yielded no significant progress, whereas his conversation with Zelensky was described as 'very important and productive' by the Ukrainian leader. Zelensky stated that the call was 'very significant and fruitful,' during which they discussed strengthening Ukraine's air defenses, joint weapons production, and mutual investments. Trump agreed, calling the discussion 'very strategic.' He also expressed dissatisfaction with his conversation with Putin, highlighting that Putin is determined to continue the conflict and is killing people, which he finds unacceptable. Earlier this week, the Pentagon paused some weapon supplies to Ukraine, citing critically declining U.S. stockpiles of ammunition. When asked about this pause, Trump reaffirmed that the U.S. has not ceased providing aid and emphasized: 'We are giving weapons and working with Ukraine to help them. We’ve provided a lot already, and we continue to do so to support the Ukrainian people.'
