Support for Victims of Russian Aggression: Who Is Eligible and What Payments Are Provided

Ukraine continues to make efforts to support its citizens affected by the ongoing large-scale military aggression by the Russian Federation. In the context of armed conflict, the state does not leave its people without assistance, especially those who have acquired disabilities, injuries, or illnesses while performing official duties in combat zones, during shelling, or as a result of other war-related incidents. According to the National Social Service, various social support programs are available for such citizens, including one-time monetary payments. Currently, the process for obtaining this assistance is clearly defined. It is important to know that the right to such aid is granted to workers of critical infrastructure facilities, representatives of local government bodies, civil servants, and family members of those who tragically lost their lives in the war. Applications for assistance can be submitted in person at the Pension Fund of Ukraine or online through their official digital platform. Applicants should be aware that claims must be submitted within three years from the date the right to assistance arises. The payment amounts depend on the level of disability or are linked to tragic death: 800,000 UAH for first-degree disabled persons; 500,000 UAH for second-degree; 200,000 UAH for third-degree; and in case of death – one million UAH. Additionally, some categories of citizens may receive extra payments before Ukraine's Independence Day, which is an important component of social support during these challenging times.
