European Union Expands Trade Opportunities for Ukraine: New Quotas on Agricultural Products and Electricity

In recent agreements between Ukraine and the European Union, significant steps have been taken to broaden the export opportunities for Ukrainian producers in the European market. The EU has decided to increase quotas for the import of certain categories of agricultural products from Ukraine, aiming to strengthen trade cooperation and support Ukrainian farmers amid challenging times. According to the new arrangements, the quota for Ukrainian wheat imports has been raised from 1 million to 1.3 million tons, allowing Ukrainian producers to expand their export volumes to Europe. Similarly, import volumes for sugar increased from 20,000 to 100,000 tons, barley from 350,000 to 450,000 tons, and poultry meat from 90,000 to 120,000 tons. These measures are part of an updated trade agreement signed at the end of June between the EU and Ukraine, covering 40 different product categories and awaiting ratification by the European Parliament. Additionally, the EU has approved an increase in the maximum capacity for exporting electricity from Ukraine and Moldova to European countries, now reaching up to 900 MW. This development is crucial for enhancing energy security and integrating Ukraine’s energy system with Europe. All these initiatives are aimed at supporting Ukrainian exports and strengthening trade ties amidst current challenges and global trends.
