The General Staff of the Ukrainian Armed Forces officially confirmed the attack carried out by Ukrainian drones on a significant military facility located within the Russian Federation. The target was the 'Energiya' plant situated in the Lipetsk region, over 300 kilometers from Ukraine’s border. Reports of this incident emerged in the early hours of July 3, when powerful explosions rocked the factory, prompting concern and surprise among Russian military personnel and local residents. According to Ukrainian military sources, this facility holds strategic importance as it specializes in the mass production of batteries and accumulators used in advanced missile systems ‘Iskander-M’ and the X-35U missile. Additionally, the factory produces versatile modules for drone targeting and missile correction, substantially enhancing the combat capabilities of Russian forces. The General Staff stated that Ukrainian drones purposefully targeted this manufacturing hub, causing critical damage. It was noted that the Russians are converting standard free-fall bombs into glide bombs—more accurate and capable of longer flights—making defense against such attacks more difficult and increasing their effectiveness. This was not the first strike against the plant. On May 23, 2025, the 'Energiya' factory was previously attacked by Ukrainian special forces’ drones. Satellite images from Planet Labs revealed significant damage to several buildings at the site. Currently, production at the enterprise has been halted, which significantly impacts the logistical chain supplying necessary weapons and equipment to Russia. Military analysts emphasize that such attacks represent a serious assertion by Ukrainian forces amid the ongoing war with Russia, and they strategically weaken the adversary’s military potential.
