Google has taken another significant step in expanding its enterprise services by integrating the latest Gemini chatbots into its popular suite of products—Documents, Spreadsheets, and Gmail. This new feature grants users access to personalized versions of the Gemini AI, which function as mini-assistants or helpers with tailored capabilities and configurable settings. The system allows users to create their own virtual assistant named Gem or utilize pre-designed templates to quickly embed AI assistance into their workflow. Customization options include adjusting the communication style—such as formal or informal, distant or friendly, technical or empathetic, humorous or serious—and defining behavioral instructions. For example, a user can set one Gem to keep an emotional journal, another to respond passively only to direct requests, and a third to act proactively by sending reminders and suggestions. Ready-made Gems templates are available for tasks like text editing, coding, generating sales ideas, and automating routine tasks. Previously, such mini-assistants were only accessible within the Gemini AI app itself; now, they are expanding into broader integrations within Google’s ecosystem. The name 'Gems' carries multiple connotations, including precious stones or jewels, symbolizing their value and uniqueness. Importantly, most of these advanced features and tools are primarily available to users with subscriptions to Google Labs and Google Workspace. For instance, with a Google One AI Premium subscription, Gemini’s AI can automatically create concise summaries from long email threads in Gmail, streamlining information management and boosting productivity.
