The German federal government is actively working on a swift and effective solution to support Ukraine in its ongoing fight against Russian aggression by providing essential air defense systems. According to sources, including reports from the German publication Bild and information from 'European Truth,' Berlin is striving to obtain two Patriot missile defense systems from the United States, which the German government intends to finance for Ukraine's military. This move is considered a high priority for strengthening Ukraine's defensive capabilities, especially after Kyiv previously attempted to independently purchase these systems in the U.S. but was unsuccessful. Currently, Berlin hopes for a favorable U.S. response, but concerns persist about potential rejection of the request due to existing restrictions and bans announced by Washington, especially following the suspension of certain military supplies. After a government meeting held on Wednesday, it was made clear that the U.S. would be unable to compensate for all the halted shipments, prompting German diplomats to seek ways to provide Ukraine with these systems from their own reserves, thus supporting Kyiv in its challenging conflict. Reports also indicate that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, in discussions with U.S. President Donald Trump, raised the issue of continuing the supply of American weapons and ammunition, including PAC-3 missiles for Patriot systems. Ukrainian diplomatic and military officials are actively working to clarify details concerning possible assistance from the United States under new international circumstances.
