Ukrainian tennis star Daya Yastremska once again demonstrated her impressive skills and fighting spirit by securing an exhilarating and hard-fought victory at Wimbledon 2025. Advancing to the tournament's third round, one of the most prestigious events in the tennis world and part of the Grand Slam series, Yastremska faced a notable challenge in the second round against Anastasia Zakharova, a Russian player competing under neutral status due to political restrictions, ranked 95th in the WTA world rankings. The match lasted over two and a half hours, during which the Ukrainian athlete displayed extraordinary resilience, eventually winning with a score of 5:7, 7:5, 7:6, despite losing the first set and trailing 3:5 in the second. It is worth highlighting that prior to this victory, Yastremska made headlines by unexpectedly defeating the world's second-ranked player, Coco Gauff of the USA, in the previous round with scores of 7:6, 6:1. This marked her fourth main draw appearance at Wimbledon, with her best result being reaching the fourth round in 2019. Alongside Yastremska, another Ukrainian tennis player, Julia Starodubtseva, also competed, but in the second round she was eliminated by Russian player Lyudmila Samsonova with scores of 2:6, 1:6. Wimbledon remains one of the four major Grand Slam tournaments played on London's grass courts. As a side note, before her third-round appearance, Elina Svitolina, the leading Ukrainian female tennis player, also advanced to this stage after defeating her Belarusian opponent, further underscoring the high level of Ukrainian tennis on the global stage.
