Correct Usage of Ukrainian Vocabulary: Clarifying the Term «Ruchey» and the Importance of Language Purity
In today's Ukrainian language landscape, an increasing number of citizens are consciously transitioning to speaking completely in Ukrainian, especially since the onset of full-scale Russian aggression. However, despite this positive trend, many speakers occasionally make linguistic mistakes, often due to the influence of Russian words or colloquialisms known as surzhyk. A common example is the word «ручєй», a direct calque from Russian. The correct Ukrainian term for a small stream of water is «струмок».
