Authorities within Ukraine’s Air Force have recently uncovered and detained an individual suspected of sabotage and espionage activities aimed at harming the state. According to reports from the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) and the Office of the Prosecutor General, a current major in the Ukrainian Air Force based in Lviv was arrested on suspicion of espionage for Russia. This operation was part of a broader effort to expose foreign agents operating covertly within Ukrainian military circles. Sources indicate that the military officer was recruited by FSB agents through his former wife, who remained in the temporarily occupied Zaporizhzhia region and collaborated with the enemy. Russian intelligence operatives established contact with him to collect sensitive information, particularly concerning Ukrainian military airfields, logistical hubs, and aircraft maintenance centers. Furthermore, it was revealed that under the direction of a handler—an operative from the FSB “Alpha” special operations unit—the suspect activated Ukrainian mobile phone numbers and shared this information with his ex-wife, who disseminated it among Russian agents involved in sabotage activities against Ukraine. During searches, law enforcement seized his mobile device, which contained evidence of criminal activities. Prosecutors from the Office of the Prosecutor General have officially charged the former spouses with treason committed by a conspiracy during wartime. The man remains in custody, while his ex-wife, who is currently residing in the occupied territories, has been formally notified of her suspicion in absentia. This case underscores the grave dangers posed by internal collaborators and highlights the importance of strengthening counterintelligence measures to shield Ukraine from internal and external threats.
