On July 3rd, the Ukrainian nation celebrates an important professional holiday — the Day of the Air Defense Missile Troops of the Ukrainian Air Forces. This special day has deep historical roots and symbolizes the crucial role and unwavering dedication of Ukrainian servicemen in safeguarding the nation's skies. The holiday was established on February 10th, 2011, initiated by the Ukrainian Ministry of Defense, and has since become an integral part of military tradition and national defense policy. Its main aim is to uphold high prestige for service in air defense missile units, enhance the professional skills of military personnel, and foster deep respect in society for sky defenders. In Ukraine, the air defense missile troops are part of the Air Forces, Ground Forces, and Naval Forces, playing a vital role in the country’s anti-aircraft defense. Equipped with modern missile systems capable of targeting fast-moving aerial threats at various altitudes and in all weather conditions, they are an essential element of Ukraine’s strategic defense. During the ongoing full-scale invasion launched by Russia, these troops actively defend Ukrainian airspace from enemy strikes. Ukrainian forces have successfully targeted and destroyed command posts, such as the 81st Self-Propelled Artillery Regiment of Russian occupiers in the temporarily occupied part of Kherson region, and launched precise strikes against enemy positions. Moreover, Ukrainian pilots have repelled large-scale attacks on the Pokrovsk direction, destroying over a hundred units of Russian military equipment, demonstrating the high combat readiness and professionalism of Ukraine’s defenders. This day symbolizes resilience, courage, and unbreakable will of the Ukrainian people, serving as a reminder of the importance of a modern and effective defense system to preserve Ukraine’s independence and territorial integrity.
