Former U.S. President Donald Trump has made a surprising announcement that has garnered significant international attention. According to his statements, Israel has reportedly agreed to a sixty-day ceasefire in the Gaza Strip, opening a new chapter in efforts to achieve peace in the Middle East. Details shared via his social media platform Truth indicate that Trump's representatives held lengthy and productive negotiations with Israeli officials. As a result, Israel allegedly accepted the demands necessary to establish a long-term truce, during which global leaders and mediators will work toward restoring stability and security in the region. Trump expressed hope that Hamas would also accept this agreement, asserting that otherwise, the situation in Gaza would only deteriorate further. In his statement, he highlighted that this step requires active diplomatic work: “My representatives engaged in long and constructive talks with Israelis regarding Gaza. Israel has agreed to the necessary conditions for launching a three-month ceasefire, during which we will work with all parties to end this conflict.” He further added that Arab countries, notably Qatar and Egypt, have contributed significant efforts toward reaching this deal and will forward the final proposal to their leadership. Trump is optimistic that Hamas will accept this proposal, as otherwise, prospects for peaceful resolution remain bleak. Importantly, this announcement comes amid ongoing tensions following Israel's announcement on May 19 of a large-scale military operation in Gaza, dubbed Operation 'Gideon's Chariot,' aimed at gaining strategic control over Palestinian territories. This operation involved extensive airstrikes and ground fighting. A few hours after these military actions, the Israeli government declared that a minimal amount of humanitarian aid would be allowed into Gaza to prevent a humanitarian disaster, particularly famine. European nations funding humanitarian aid to Gaza civilians have called for the removal of all obstacles that hinder the delivery of essential food and medical supplies to the region.
