The Day Care Social Service in Ukraine: How to Access and Benefit from It

Certain Ukrainians now have the opportunity to access a vital social service — day care assistance. This service is designed for individuals who have partially or completely lost the ability to care for themselves in daily life. The Ministry of Social Policy of Ukraine explains that this program aims to support elderly people, especially those with cognitive impairments, as well as persons with disabilities and patients suffering from severe illnesses who are unable to perform self-care activities even before formally establishing their disability status. The service includes help with nutrition, hygiene, rehabilitation, and psychological support.Obtaining the service can be done in two ways: by visiting the nearest social protection office in your community or through the Ukrainian Ministry of Social Policy’s digital portal. Applying online offers numerous advantages such as saving time, avoiding queues, and being able to monitor the application status through a personal account. To apply digitally, one must log in using an electronic signature (KEP), BankID, or Diia app. Then, navigate to the ‘My Applications’ section, select ‘Submit a new application,’ choose ‘Social Services Requests,’ fill out the required information, upload scanned documents if necessary, and sign the application electronically. The application status can be tracked conveniently within the personal profile. Additionally, in 2023, certain categories of Ukrainian citizens received additional payments from the United Nations, notably through the World Food Programme, which extended aid payments until the end of July. Further details on these benefits and eligible recipients are provided in subsequent sections.
