Russian Kamikaze Drones Strike Odesa Region Again: Damage to Port and Tourist Infrastructure, No Casualties

On the night of July 1 to 2, the Odessa region was once again hit by alarming alerts as Russian forces launched another aerial attack. Preliminary reports indicate that kamikaze drones of the «Shahed» type appeared in the skies—a sign of the intensifying drone warfare in the region. These unmanned aerial vehicles targeted port and tourist infrastructure, causing significant damage and destruction, thereby escalating tension in the area. While some drones were shot down by air defense forces, others managed to penetrate the targets, resulting in damages. Fortunately, no casualties were reported among civilians or defenders, with damage confined to infrastructure facilities. Earlier, Russian forces had attacked Odessa itself, targeting a 21-story residential building downtown; the strike caused a fire that destroyed part of the building and claimed the lives of a family. More than a dozen residents sustained injuries of various degrees. That same evening, a fire broke out at a local enterprise in the Zaporizhzhia region, with private homes also damaged—fortunately, without casualties but with property destruction. The ongoing military aggression continues to exert psychological and economic pressure on the region. Ukrainian security services remain vigilant, enhancing measures for defense and civilian protection amid increasing threats.
