Hamas Expresses Willingness for Gaza Ceasefire: Conditions and Diplomatic Strategies

As of July 2, the Palestinian organization Hamas announced its readiness to engage in negotiations and establish a ceasefire agreement with Israel, but with a clear stipulation. According to the official spokesperson Taha al-Nunu, the militant group is 'ready and seriously committed to reaching a consensus deal that could bring an end to prolonged mutual hostilities.' He emphasized that Hamas is open to any initiatives aimed at achieving a complete cessation of hostilities in the Gaza Strip. Notably, today in Cairo, Hamas delegates met with Egyptian and Qatari mediators to discuss possible pathways toward signing a peace agreement. Meanwhile, on the other side, U.S. President Donald Trump declared on July 1 that Israel had agreed to an updated proposal for a 60-day ceasefire in Gaza, which would include the release of some hostages. This decision was made during talks at the White House between Trump's envoy Steve Vickoff and Israel's Minister of Strategic Planning Ron Dermer. Trump also urged Hamas to accept the deal, warning that refusal would only lead to worsening conditions and potential new conflicts with serious regional consequences.
