US Congress Demands Immediate Return of Abducted Ukrainian Children: A New Step in Countering Russian Aggression

The United States is actively addressing the issue of the abduction and illegal deportation of Ukrainian children by Russian forces. Amid widespread international criticism and documented cases, the US Congress has introduced a bipartisan resolution condemning these crimes and calling on Russia to immediately return all abducted children to Ukraine. American politicians emphasize that under Vladimir Putin’s leadership, Russian military forces have committed large-scale, brutal crimes, stripping Ukrainian children of their identity, forcing them to live in Russian families, or indoctrinating them as potential soldiers of the Kremlin. According to Ukrainian official estimates and international analysts, the number of abducted children is at least 19,546, but the actual figure could be much higher — up to 200,000. Ukraine is making considerable efforts to bring its children home, already managing to return over 1,200, but this number remains far from the scale of the tragedy. The resolution, supported by both the Senate and the House of Representatives, aims to attract international attention and pressure Russia to cease these crimes. Experts note that this is not only a battlefield struggle but also a diplomatic battle within international institutions, as the fight for Ukrainian children continues beyond the front lines. An essential part of this effort involves documenting cases of abductions and establishing effective procedures for returning children home, which is currently complicated by the US government’s suspension of funding for related humanitarian documentation initiatives.
