Between January and May 2025, Ukraine experienced a remarkable increase in the importation of fruits, particularly apples, pears, and quinces. During this period, the country imported over 13,300 tons of fresh fruits, spending more than 15.5 million US dollars on these acquisitions. This volume represents a 2.5-fold increase compared to the total imports of the entire previous year, with expenditures also rising substantially. The most significant import sources were Poland, providing over 56% of supplies, followed by the Netherlands with 18.6%, and Moldova at 7.4%. Data from the State Customs Service confirms this sharp upward trend in fruit imports. Moreover, Ukraine has strengthened its trade relations within the European Union in 2024, with EU exports to Ukraine reaching a record high of €42.8 billion, while imports amounted to approximately €24.5 billion. In April 2025, Ukrainian agricultural producers exported 4.1 million tons of produce, which is half of the volume exported a year earlier, when the figure was 8.3 million tons. Additionally, there was a 23.4% decrease in exports compared to March 2025, indicating a current downward trend in Ukraine’s agricultural export volumes amid shifting trade dynamics.
