Ukraine has taken a significant step towards strengthening its security and foreign policy by joining a broad spectrum of sanctions imposed by the European Union against Russia, Belarus, and Iran. This move is not merely an act of solidarity but a strategic engagement in the global effort to combat human rights violations, military aggression, and regimes that breach international law. According to official statements from the Ukrainian Presidential Office, President Volodymyr Zelensky signed a series of decrees and adopted decisions from the National Security and Defense Council, formalizing the synchronization of Ukraine's sanctions regime with that of the EU. This marks the initial phase of implementing the decision made on June 27, 2025, which aims to align Ukraine’s sanctions with the EU’s 9-14 packages and measures targeting violators of human rights in Belarus and Iran. Notably, a total of 403 individuals and 188 legal entities implicated in violations, aggression, and support of hostile regimes have been included. Ukrainian authorities emphasize ongoing preparation of additional sanctions packages, aiming for maximum harmonization with international partners to exert effective pressure on aggressor regimes. Meanwhile, the European Union continues its enforcement of sanctions, with the sectoral restrictions against Russia extended for another six months as of June 30. Although agreement has yet to be reached on the 18th sanction package, Ukraine remains actively engaged in supporting and advocating for a unified international sanctions policy to counteract aggression and human rights abuses effectively.
