The newly elected President of Poland, Karol Nawarocki, is actively preparing for renewed diplomatic engagement with Ukraine, expressing his intention to meet with Ukrainian leader Volodymyr Zelensky in the near future. According to the politician, his goal is not merely to establish dialogue but also to strengthen cooperation between the two nations on critical issues, taking into account the historical and geopolitical challenges faced by the region. Nawarocki emphasized that Poland and Ukraine share many common interests and goals; however, unresolved historical disputes, such as the migration and mass graves in Volhynia, remain delicate topics requiring careful handling. He highlighted that in our partnership, finding mutually acceptable solutions is essential. He also indicated his plan to visit all Polish neighbors, especially those bordering Ukraine. Nawarocki stated that due to the ongoing war in Ukraine, immediate membership is currently impractical and expressed opposition to Ukraine’s unconditional EU accession, emphasizing the importance of geopolitical realities and regional security concerns.
