Ukrainian Government Receives Nomination for Oleksandr Tsvin’sky as Head of the Bureau of Economic Security: Process Developments and Political Intrigue

Amidst intense political struggles over the formation of a new leadership for the Bureau of Economic Security (BES), the Ukrainian government has officially received a nomination for Oleksandr Tsvin’sky to serve as its director. This decision was submitted to the Cabinet of Ministers by People's Deputy Yaroslav Zhelezniak from the 'Holos' faction, confirming its legitimacy and procedural correctness. According to Zhelezniak, all formalities have been completed, and the government has ten days to decide on the appointment, following standard Ukrainian legislative procedures. The selection committee, which previously supported Tsvin’sky’s candidacy, made its choice on June 24, favoring him in the competitive process. Currently, Tsvin’sky heads the detective unit at the Second Main Department of NABU, and his nomination was primarily supported by international members of the commission. However, Ukrainian members of the commission — Tetiana Matzelyk, Oleg Gilyaka, and Yury Ponomarenko — blocked his appointment, sparking significant controversy and political tension. According to analysts, including Martha Bozhoslavets, head of the Anti-Corruption Center 'Mezha,' this blockage was orchestrated by Ukrainian officials, particularly from the Presidential Office (Bankova), who allegedly aim to derail reform efforts and control anti-corruption measures through influence over key personnel appointments. She added that the two candidates, including Tsvin’sky, were the least problematic regarding their integrity and professional reputation. As the political battle over the BES director’s position continues, society closely monitors developments, knowing that the outcome significantly impacts Ukraine’s anti-corruption efforts and the country’s international reputation.
