Ukrainian Forces Launch Active Counterattacks in Northern Sumy Region: Insights from International Experts and Recent Combat Operations

In recent weeks, Ukrainian armed forces have been actively conducting counteroffensive operations in the northern part of the Sumy region. According to the latest report by the American Institute for the Study of War (ISW), Ukrainian defenders have made significant advances, notably south of Olexiivka, located north of the city of Sumy. This is confirmed by geolocation video recordings dated June 28, which document the movement of Ukrainian units in this direction. Meanwhile, Russian troops continue active hostilities in the Sumy sector, launching attacks north of the city and near settlements such as Andriivka and Yablунivka. Military analysts report that Ukrainian forces had to repel and counterattack between Yablunivka and Krapivshchyna, as well as near Andriivka. The Ukrainian General Staff reported that over the past day, Ukrainian troops successfully halted 16 enemy assaults in the northeastern regions of the country, including in Sumy and Kursk regions. The enemy employed aviation, striking with 11 aerial attacks using 29 guided bombs, and carried out 352 artillery strikes, including one salvo from rocket systems. Additionally, reports indicate that in Donetsk oblast, particularly along the Kramatorsk direction, Ukrainian troops advanced towards Chasiv Yar, strengthening their positions and increasing pressure on occupying forces. The situation remains tense, but Ukrainian soldiers continue to demonstrate confident progress, raising hopes for further liberation of occupied territories.
