Tehran Condemns Ukrainian Position Amid Military Conflicts Involving the US and Israel

Tehran took a sharp diplomatic step by summoning Ukraine's chargé d'affaires in Iran, Kyril Pozdnyakov, to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in connection with recent statements by Ukrainian officials regarding military aggression by the United States and Israel against Iran. According to the state news agency IRNA, the diplomat was called by Shahram Farsaie, head of the First Department for Eurasia at the Iranian MFA, who officially handed over a note of protest and strongly condemned Ukraine’s stance. The statement did not specify which particular statements by Ukrainian officials provoked Tehran’s outrage; however, Iranian diplomats expressed their firm disapproval of Kyiv’s support for Israel’s actions, emphasizing that such a position contradicts Ukraine’s international obligations, including the UN Charter and the Geneva Conventions. The Iranian diplomat highlighted that Ukraine’s endorsement of Israel’s alleged apartheid regime effectively amounts to approval and could have significant international legal consequences. Iranian officials also warned Kyiv against further hostile and provocative remarks, cautioning of potential negative impacts on bilateral relations. The Ukrainian chargé d'affaires stated that he would promptly relay the content of the note and Iran’s official position to the Ukrainian government. This diplomatic incident occurs amid ongoing tensions, notably after Iranian strikes against Israel resulted in the deaths of five Ukrainian nationals, including three children. Furthermore, in June, Ukraine’s MFA called for the complete cessation of Iran’s nuclear program, citing its potential threat to the Middle East and global security.
