Germany urges EU to intensify supply of additional air defense systems to Ukraine amid recent missile assaults

Amid an increase in aerial attacks from Russia across Ukrainian regions, Germany has taken a significant step toward bolstering Kyiv's defense capabilities. During an official meeting with Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Siberiga held in Kyiv on June 30th, German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock emphasized the urgent need to accelerate cooperation in military aid. Their joint letter to European partners calls for swift and substantial transfer of additional air defense systems capable of countering modern threats across various altitudes and frequency ranges. Baerbock highlighted that recent weeks have seen intensified air strikes by Russia, which underscores the importance of this initiative. She assured that Germany will deploy all available means to support Ukraine and is currently consulting with European colleagues on the allocation of necessary systems. Particular attention has been paid to the fact that the German defense industry is actively trying to ramp up production capacities to ensure quick delivery of defense systems to Ukraine. A collective letter from Defense Minister Boris Pistorius and Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock has been prepared to verify the availability of different systems and assess the possibility of their transfer to bolster Ukraine’s air defense.
