Fedorov predicts effectiveness of new «Shahed» interception technologies: the next three months will reveal their true potential

Mykhailo Fedorov, Ukraine’s Deputy Prime Minister for Innovation, Education, Science, and Technology, along with the Minister of Digital Transformation, has made a significant statement regarding the prospects of developing and deploying cutting-edge systems for intercepting «Shahed» drones. He explained that Ukraine is actively working on creating advanced interceptors for kamikaze drones, with some prototypes already showing remarkable breakthroughs, potentially revolutionizing the country’s defense against Russian unmanned aerial attacks. Fedorov emphasized that the real effectiveness of these technological advancements will be measurable in approximately three months, when Ukrainians will be able to evaluate whether these new systems can significantly reduce the number of successful drone incursions. He highlighted that these innovations are a result of collaboration between Ukrainian engineers and Western scientific communities, which gave rise to promising technological shifts. "The issue with ‘Shahed’ drones has become quite pressing. They are increasingly reaching greater altitudes and more frequently hit targets, posing serious challenges for our air defense and missile systems," Fedorov said. He also noted that he prefers not to disclose all details of these projects to prevent aid to the enemy, but assured that substantial technological progress has been made. The goal, according to Fedorov, is to see a tangible decrease in the number of drone strikes, and he expressed optimism about solutions emerging on the battlefield that could dramatically change the situation. Ukrainian military units are also actively forming new mobile air defense units equipped with modern intercepting drones, which further bolster the country’s strategic resilience against aerial threats. In this context, Fedorov underscored the tense but hopeful outlook for Ukraine’s defense capabilities, especially given the ongoing international cooperation and technological innovation that Ukrainian developers and their Western partners have initiated.
