Threat in Western Ukraine: Russian Attack on Lviv Region and Ongoing Consequences of Aggression
On the night of Sunday, June 29, a new escalation of military aggression by Russia struck the strategically vital infrastructure of the Lviv region. According to Head of the Lviv Regional Military Administration, Maksym Kozytskyi, the enemy employed kamikaze drones and cruise missiles in targeted attacks on infrastructural facilities critical to the region's functioning. These strikes resulted in series of explosions in the Drohobych district, causing extensive destruction. The head of the Drohobych District Military Administration, Stepan Kulyanyak, stated that the attacked site was industrial in nature. As a consequence, part of the city of Drohobych was left without electricity, and a major fire broke out at the impact site. Currently, energy workers are actively working on restoring power, though the effects of the strike are already tangible. Fortunately, no civilians were injured. The mayor of Lviv, Andriy Sadovyi, confirmed that despite the tense situation, no residential buildings in the city were damaged. According to the Ministry of Defense, Russia launched 477 drones and 60 missiles during the attack, including Kalibr, Kinzhal, Iskander-M/KN-23, X-101/Iskander-K, and S-300 systems. Ukrainian forces successfully intercepted and destroyed 475 aerial targets. Tragically, Ukrainian pilot Lieutenant Colonel Maksym Ustymenko lost his life heroically defending the country. In Ivano-Frankivsk region, a woman was injured during a Russian attack, and civilian infrastructure suffered damages. The overall situation remains critical across Ukraine, but citizens continue to demonstrate resilience and unwavering commitment to defending their independence.
