Shmyhal in Spain: Strengthening Defense Cooperation and EU Integration Prospects

Ukraine's Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal has embarked on an official visit to Spain, engaging in high-level talks with Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez. A central focus of the discussions was the enhancement of defense cooperation between the two nations, including proposals for joint production of drones, missile systems, and advanced military technologies. Shmyhal emphasized the importance of intercepting and neutralizing Russian drones that daily attack Ukrainian infrastructure. He also highlighted the significance of utilizing frozen Russian assets to fund Ukraine’s recovery efforts, underscoring that confiscation remains a crucial financial resource. Furthermore, the leaders discussed Ukraine's path toward European Union accession. Shmyhal expressed optimism that by the end of this year, political decisions would be made to start accession negotiations. He pointed out that Spain is currently hosting the fourth international development financing conference under the auspices of the UN, and he hopes that positive resolutions will bring Ukraine closer to peace and a prosperous future.
