Russian Forces Strike Kharkiv Region Again: Kupiansk Under Fire, Casualties Reported
On June 29, Russian troops launched a heavy barrage on the Kharkiv region, once again disrupting the peaceful lives of local residents. This time, the towns and villages of Kupiansk district, including the city of Kupiansk and the village of Vilkhuvatka, came under attack. According to the Kharkiv Oblast Prosecutor's Office, the attacks resulted in one confirmed death and another person seriously injured, both of whom are now receiving medical care. The incident began around 10 a.m., when Russian forces carried out a series of airstrikes on Vilkhuvatka, dropping four guided aviation bombs. These strikes damaged private homes and caused significant destruction to residential buildings. Subsequently, at approximately 1:30 p.m., artillery fire was directed at residential neighborhoods in Kupiansk, leading to the death of a 54-year-old man. Another man, aged 32, was critically wounded and is hospitalized in serious condition. The pre-trial investigation into these war crimes, under Article 438 of Ukraine's Criminal Code, has been initiated by the Kupiansk district prosecutor’s office. Law enforcement officials are currently documenting the evidence and circumstances concerning the crimes committed by Russian military personnel during this aggression. The escalation of violence stems from widespread destruction and damage to the city’s infrastructure, which, as of May 24, was reported to be approximately 90% ruined or significantly compromised, according to Andriy Besedin, the head of the Kupiansk military administration. These ongoing attacks have created a critical humanitarian situation for the residents, further complicating efforts to restore stability and normalcy in the region.
