Ukrainian defenders’ combat breakthrough: rare North Korean missile system destroyed

Operators of the Raid battalion of the Ukrainian Armed Forces’ unmanned systems forces demonstrated high efficiency in the fight against the enemy, destroying one of the most interesting examples of the aggressor’s military equipment in the Novopavlivske direction — the North Korean M1991 multiple launch rocket system. This equipment is considered rare and difficult to access and is of strategic importance to the enemy, since its use is designed to significantly strengthen the enemy’s strike potential in the region. According to the press service of the Ukrainian Armed Forces’ Unmanned Systems Forces, the operation to detect and destroy the target was carried out using high-precision unmanned equipment capable of accurately identifying targets in difficult conditions. According to the data received, special manned drones carried out a pinpoint strike on the system, disposing of it along with the ammunition that was in service. Details of the operation report that the strike was very accurate: one of the drones hit a projectile on the guidance package, which caused it to deactivate and explode in the air, which resulted in a complete breakdown for the system and its removal from the front line. Information about this missile system is of particular importance, since the M1991 is, in fact, a North Korean version of the Soviet Uragan MLRS. However, it differs in an increased caliber - 240 mm against the standard 220 mm - and a significantly greater firing range, up to 60 kilometers. This system first became known from video evidence released in April 2025, which confirmed its presence in the enemy's arsenal. Given its uniqueness, the Ukrainian military is making every effort to identify and neutralize such systems on the front line in order to reduce their impact on the course of hostilities. The destruction of the M1991 rocket system is another significant step in the long struggle of the Ukrainian military against Russian and North Korean military potential, which opens up opportunities for further refinement of tactics and defense of Ukrainian positions. At the same time, it demonstrates a high level of organization and coordinated work between different units, in particular, with the use of unmanned systems, which have already proven themselves as one of the main tools in modern combat conditions.
