Ukraine has experienced a decline in young potato prices: the market is undergoing a correction

The Ukrainian market has again recorded a decline in young potato prices, which is the result of a significant increase in the supply of this popular product from new harvests. Economic analysts from the EastFruit project report that as of June 26, producers offered young potato harvests at prices within 18-28 UAH/kg ($0.43-0.67/kg). This is 10% cheaper compared to prices a week earlier, which indicates a trend of decreasing price dynamics. The main reason for such a decrease in price is considered to be a significant increase in supply volumes. Local farms have intensified the collection and shipment of young potatoes, so the market has been filled with significant volumes of products. At the same time, as experts and key players in the agricultural sector emphasize, buyers are actively interested in early products, which partially restrains an even faster decrease in the price of the product. It is noted that the cost of potatoes on the domestic market currently exceeds last year's price levels by 30%, but this trend is likely to change in the near future. According to market participants, a further decrease in prices for young potatoes is expected next week. The main reason is the continuous growth in supply - farms are increasing the scale of harvesting every day. This may lead to increased competition between sellers, which, in turn, will lower the price threshold for consumers. It is also important to recall that the ripening period of traditional early vegetables and fruits in Ukraine has now ended, which means that the market expects even more early products in the near future. In addition to potatoes, the fruit and vegetable sectors are already preparing for a new harvest cycle, which complicates the situation with the balance of supply and demand. As a result, Ukrainian consumers can observe a gradual decrease in the price of new potatoes, and farmers are preparing for new challenges due to growing competition and decreasing prices. In recent days, experts have been strongly advising to be prepared for possible price fluctuations and to intensify the search for optimal offers for buyers.
