From July 1, Kyiv will change the procedure for paying for public transport for schoolchildren

From the beginning of the summer period of 2023, the situation with preferential travel on public transport in Kyiv will undergo significant changes. This is due to the specifics of the legislation and decisions of the city authorities that regulate the issue of access of schoolchildren to free or discounted travel tickets. The Kyiv administration explained in detail how and when the current preferential system will be applied during the summer holidays. What will happen to student travel from July 1? Starting from July 1 and until August 31, that is, during the traditional summer holidays, students of Kyiv schools will be forced to pay for public transport at general rates. Special benefits that were in effect during the school year are temporarily canceled for this period. This was reported by the Kyiv City State Administration (KCSA), emphasizing that free travel for schoolchildren, according to the decision of the Kyiv City Council, is relevant only from September 1 to July 1 inclusive. What is the cost of student travel tickets during this period? The city administration noted that even in the summer, schoolchildren will be able to use preferential conditions, which provide for a 75% discount on travel tickets in city passenger transport. This means that for full-time students, the price range of preferential tickets looks like this: - 325 hryvnias - travel ticket without a limit on the number of trips during the month; - 162.50 hryvnias - for the second half of the month with an unlimited number of trips; - 72.50 hryvnias - travel ticket per month for 46 trips; - 97.50 hryvnias - for 62 trips per month; - 143.75 hryvnias — for 92 trips; - 192.50 hryvnias — for 124 trips. You can buy these tickets using electronic applications, such as “Kyiv Digital”, or in special self-service machines. You can also top up your student pass through the cash desks of the Kyiv Metro at the Vydubychi 1, Pochaina 1, and Vokzalna stations, or on the website of the Kyiv Metro and the EasyPay mobile application. Estimates and features According to the resolution of the Kyiv City State Administration No. 399 of March 5, 2020, full-time students can purchase a discounted pass at a price of from 72.50 hryvnias to 325 hryvnias, depending on the number of trips and the selected tariff. It is important to note that single tickets for students are also available — however, the 75% discount is not applied to them. It is also necessary to take into account the fact that from July 1 to August 31, cadets of military higher educational institutions, who usually enjoy privileges during the academic year, also lose their right to free travel. It should be noted that the same rules and restrictions apply to other beneficiaries, in particular pensioners, for whom the legislation also provides for the possibility of free travel, which is regulated by separate decisions and rules. All this indicates that the city policy on the convenience and accessibility of public transport in Kyiv continues to be updated in accordance with current realities and needs of residents.
