Andrzej Duda in Kyiv: Last Official Visit of Polish Leader Before End of Presidential Term
The current President of Poland, Andrzej Duda, made his farewell state visit to the Ukrainian capital, on the eve of the end of his presidential term. This visit took place on June 28 — the Constitution Day of Ukraine, and became a symbolic demonstration of support for the Ukrainian people and state during the already repeated challenges and trials. According to the information distributed by the Embassy of Poland in Ukraine on its social networks on the X platform (formerly Twitter), it was on this day that President Duda arrived in Kyiv and was met at the railway station by the Charge d’Affaires of Poland in Ukraine, Mr. Piotr Łukasiewicz. This was not a random visit: back in early June, Duda informed his Ukrainian counterpart, Volodymyr Zelensky, of his intentions to visit Ukraine before the end of his presidential term. It should be noted separately that during this visit the Polish leader held a meeting with his possible successor, Karol Nawrocki, who is to take office as president of the country in September. One of the main topics of their conversation was the issue of Ukraine's membership in NATO, which is strategically important for both countries and the security zone of the entire region. Having paid attention to the upcoming changes in the Polish political space, Duda expressed the hope that his successor, a politician with well-known anti-Ukrainian statements, will change his position over time and, when he takes over the leadership of the country, will look at Ukrainian issues from a different, more constructive and objective, perspective. This indicates the desire of the Polish leadership to continue to support Ukraine in its struggle for independence and sovereignty even on the eve of the transfer of power. This visit is a symbolic and at the same time important gesture of cooperation and solidarity between Poland and Ukraine. It emphasizes the outstanding level of bilateral relations and the readiness of both countries to continue to support each other in times of difficulties and challenges. The farewell visit of the current Polish President also confirmed that, regardless of political changes in Warsaw, strategic support for Ukraine remains key to bilateral relations and regional security.
