Ukrainian forces strike Russian airbase in Volgograd region
On the night of June 27, the Ukrainian military attempted to change the balance of power in the region by carrying out a pinpoint strike on the Marinovka airfield in the Volgograd region, the press service of the Security Service of Ukraine reports. The operation, carried out by the Special Services in close cooperation with units of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, was aimed at weakening the scale and effectiveness of Russian air cover in this strategically important area. According to preliminary information, at least four Russian Su-34 aircraft were destroyed as a result of the night attack, which are one of the main components of the aggressor country's tactical aviation. These are combat vehicles equipped with high-precision weapons, in particular guided aerial bombs with correction systems and guided missiles, which are regularly used to deliver missile and bomb strikes on Ukrainian facilities and military targets. In addition to destroying the aircraft, the strike hit a technical area, a complex where combat aircraft are maintained and repaired, which is a key part of Russia's military potential in the region. Disabling or significantly damaging this infrastructure is important for reducing the enemy's combat readiness and limiting its operational capabilities in further battles. Located more than 400 km from Ukrainian territories, the Marinovka airfield serves as one of the main strategic facilities of the Russian military infrastructure in the Southern Federal District. Despite its remoteness from Ukraine, this facility has repeatedly become a target for Ukrainian drones and missile strikes. Earlier, it was reported that Ukrainian drones successfully attacked facilities at the Russian enterprise VNIIR-Progress in the city of Cheboksary, located approximately 975 km from the Ukrainian border. In general, the night strike in the Volgograd region became one of the elements of Ukraine’s systematic actions to deliver preventive and punitive strikes on key Russian military facilities. The authorities of the aggressor country do not comment on these operations, but such actions by Ukrainian forces are causing increasing resonance and a high degree of concern among the Russian leadership. The current state of destruction and the scale of damage are subject to detailed assessment, but it is already obvious that the Ukrainian attack had a significant tactical effect and significantly complicated the enemy’s military capabilities in the southwestern direction. This demonstrates the increase in combat activity and the ability of Ukrainian forces to inflict serious damage to Russian military infrastructure even at a considerable distance from the front line.
