Russian agent gets 15 years for sabotage in Dnipropetrovsk region and arson of AFU and Ukrzaliznytsia facilities

The perpetrator, who collaborated with Russian special services and carried out sabotage in Dnipropetrovsk region, received the most severe punishment - 15 years in prison. The Security Service of Ukraine reported this on June 27, emphasizing the high professionalism of the operatives and the significance of this criminal case for protecting state interests. According to the investigation, a 32-year-old resident of the region, who was previously unemployed, was recruited by Russian special services through a popular Telegram channel that offered "easy money". A study of the case materials showed that during the autumn months of 2024, he carried out several attacks on Ukrainian defense forces facilities and infrastructure, in particular, he set fire to two relay cabinets on the railway and damaged a military multivan. The evidence of the investigation indicates that during the commission of the crimes he crawled to the scene of the crime with stocks of flammable substances, which he used for arson. The agent also performed the functions of an "operator" - he recorded all criminal acts on video in order to send these materials to the Russian curator, report on the results of sabotage actions and confirm their implementation. Already during the detention, law enforcement officers caught him "red-handed" when he tried to set fire to another vehicle of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in the city of Dnipro. During the search, arson means and a mobile phone were seized from the detainee, from which he contacted the Russian "customers" of sabotage actions. Based on the evidence collected by the SBI investigators, the man was found guilty under three articles of the Criminal Code of Ukraine: Article 113 Part 2 (sabotage committed under martial law), Article 114-1 Part 1 (obstruction of the activities of the Armed Forces of Ukraine during a special period) and Article 194 Part 2 (intentional damage to property by arson). A joint task force of the SBU and the National Police, under the procedural guidance of the regional prosecutor's office, carried out a set of measures that resulted in the detention of the saboteur and the establishment of his involvement in a number of terrorist attacks and public arsons. It is worth adding that this case is only part of Ukraine's large-scale fight against foreign and domestic sabotage. Recently, investigators, together with counterintelligence, detained another suspect who tried to organize a number of terrorist attacks in the northern regions of the country. His plan was to use seductive "tools" to lure the military into traps - in particular, through social networks, where the attacker posed as a female. There were also attempts on the lives of Ukrainian military personnel, including in the capital, where an attempt was made to blow up one of the Azov fighters during a meeting with an unidentified woman. Fortunately, the victim remained unharmed, but the work of the special services to identify and neutralize such agents remains extremely important. Overall, these operations demonstrate a high level of exposure and prevention of subversive activities of the state by the Ukrainian special services. SBU and police officers continue to actively work to expose and detain aggressors both in internal and external security zones in order to prevent the enemy from establishing control over critically important facilities and ensure the safety of citizens and the country's defense capability.
