Ivano-Frankivsk advocates for nationwide abortion ban: local council initiative

The Ivano-Frankivsk City Council at its last plenary session adopted a resonant appeal to the country's top leadership with a proposal to enshrine a ban on abortions throughout Ukraine. This document, signed by the deputies, is part of a broader strategy to uphold the value of life and support the institution of the family, which, according to the authors, should become a leading direction in the state's domestic policy. In the appeal, based on the Constitution of Ukraine, the actions of the war, internally displaced persons and the demographic crisis, the deputies call on high-ranking government institutions to increase attention to fertility problems and introduce legislative mechanisms that would prohibit any medical termination of pregnancy. They emphasize that over the years of independence, the number of abortions in Ukraine has increased significantly due to the legalization of this medical procedure, which, in their opinion, causes long-term negative consequences for the physical, mental and spiritual health of the population. "A country that ceases to protect human life and allows discrimination based on the stage of development faces the destruction of its foundation - the future generation," the deputies noted in the document, emphasizing that it is the demographic crisis and high mortality that repeatedly call into question the existence of Ukrainian society. They propose a number of measures to save the nation: the restoration of the activities of the Ministry of Family, the introduction of courses in school education to prepare young people to create strong families, educational programs on patriotic education, and an increase in social payments. In particular, significant financial incentives are provided: for the first child - 100 thousand hryvnias, for the second - 200 thousand, for the third and all subsequent ones - 300 thousand. In addition, families that give birth to five or more children are promised free housing. Another important aspect is the fulfillment of international obligations, in particular the provisions of the Declaration on the Protection of the Child and the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child, with which, the deputies emphasize, the state must ensure proper social protection and legal protection of children both before and after birth. The authors of the document emphasize that without newborns it will be impossible to maintain the filling of schools, fill the ranks of workers in various industries and form a combat-ready army. As a tool to combat this crisis, the deputies propose adopting an appropriate law confirming the value of human life from the moment of conception to natural death. "May the All-Merciful Lord help us in this holy cause of protecting the lives of Ukrainians from the moment of conception!", the appeal says. It is worth recalling that earlier the mayor of Ivano-Frankivsk, Ruslan Marcinkiv, reported on the introduction of a language inspection in the city. According to him, its goal is not to punish Russian-speaking residents, but to actively promote the Ukrainian language by introducing courses and educational programs for its study among citizens. This shows that the expansion of language policy in the city continues to remain an important component of the local strategy for promoting Ukrainian identity and cultural values.
