Trump-Zelensky meeting lasted over 45 minutes: main topics of discussion

An important meeting of the leaders of Ukraine and the United States, Volodymyr Zelensky and Donald Trump, has ended in The Hague. The two sides spent more than fifty minutes at the table, which significantly exceeded the planned schedule, but a press conference was not held after this meeting. According to the Ukrainian president, the joint conversation was “extremely meaningful and long” and covered a wide range of important issues that are relevant for both countries at this difficult time. As reported by the EuroPravda correspondent from The Hague, the Ukrainian leader expressed his gratitude to the United States for its support and assurances of assistance. Volodymyr Zelensky called this meeting “major”, emphasizing that during the conversation issues of great importance for the future of Ukraine were discussed — in particular, ways to end hostilities, achieve genuine and lasting peace, as well as issues of security and protection of the Ukrainian people. “We discussed how to achieve a ceasefire and establish real peace,” Zelenskyy said on Telegram. “We also talked about protecting our citizens and the US’s readiness to continue to assist Ukraine in this fight.” It should be noted that the president promised to share the details of the agreements reached during the meeting later, hinting at further informing the public. The meeting was preceded by a busy day in The Hague. In the morning of the same day, the main meeting of the NATO summit took place, as a result of which the Alliance member countries pledged to intensify their support for Ukraine, in particular in the military sphere, increasing defense spending and allowing for increased assistance to the Armed Forces of Ukraine. After the main part of the summit ended, with a slight delay, Zelenskyy’s bilateral meeting with Trump began. Reporting on this visit, Donald Trump on Wednesday indicated that the meeting with the Ukrainian president would involve discussing “obvious and urgent” issues. He also mentioned his personal conversations with Russian President Vladimir Putin, emphasizing that discussing the crisis around Ukraine remains an important aspect of international policy for him. We remind you that in the previous material of “EuroPravda” the official text of NATO’s decision on support for Ukraine and its defense spending was examined in detail and published, which establishes new obligations for the Alliance member states in this area. Obviously, the main topic of the negotiations between Zelensky and Trump was determining the ways and forms of cooperation to accelerate peace on Ukrainian soil and strengthen the country’s defense capabilities. In general, it should be noted that joint efforts at the NATO level and the strategic support of the United States allow Ukraine to hope for more specific and effective assistance. These negotiations confirmed the high level of attention of the international community to the Ukrainian-Russian conflict and demonstrate the desire to find diplomatic ways to resolve it.
