Donald Trump is surprised that Vladimir Putin has not yet agreed to end the war in Ukraine

Former US President Donald Trump expressed surprise that Russian leader Vladimir Putin has not yet taken concrete steps to resolve the conflict on Ukrainian territory. In his comments, he mentioned that he still hopes for the opportunity to find a common solution with the Russian leader, and stressed that he considers this situation to be still insoluble. This happened during a press conference held after the end of the NATO summit in The Hague, where Trump once again analyzed the situation surrounding the war in Ukraine and international attempts to resolve it. The politician said that he recently received a call from Putin, who offered to help resolve the situation with Iran. According to Trump, the Russian president called and asked if he could help in this matter. "I told him: no, I can't, but I can help with Russia," the former American leader said, hinting that the United States is actively trying to resolve several conflicts, including the situation around Ukraine. Trump also emphasized that Putin's ambitions go far beyond the Ukrainian conflict. According to him, the Russian leader seeks to gain leverage in other regions, including the Middle East. "Maybe he really has big plans," Trump said. At the same time, he admitted that he was very surprised by Putin's message and the feelings that their settlement has been far from being achieved. "I thought we had already resolved it, but he called again and offered to help with agreements with Iran," he emphasized. Separately, Trump emphasized that in his opinion, Putin should end the war in Ukraine, since the long-running conflict negatively affects all sides. "Ending this war is our common task," he assured. At the same time, according to him, this is not all easy, and negotiating with Putin turned out to be more difficult than with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. "I said recently that the real winner is the one who ends conflicts quickly. We ended the war last year in literally 12 days," Trump recalled. "And now we have difficulties with Zelensky, and it turns out to be much more difficult." The politician admitted that it was more difficult for him to reach an agreement on Ukraine than on other conflict situations, given the complex dynamics and political interests. At the NATO summit in The Hague, Trump held a bilateral meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. According to the Ukrainian leader, this meeting was "meaningful" and provided an opportunity to discuss all the current issues related to Ukraine and security in the region. Zelensky emphasized that the discussion with the American leader was useful and allowed to agree on further actions in response to the challenges of the current situation. The meeting with Trump ended on a positive note for Ukraine, with the leaders emphasizing the importance of close cooperation in the context of supporting Ukrainian independence and security. However, despite the encouraging words and diplomatic statements, the main topic remains the unresolved situation surrounding the war and uncertainty about further steps in the diplomatic settlement of the conflict.
