The head of the White House, Donald Trump, made a surprise announcement during the NATO summit in The Hague: a meeting with representatives of Iran will take place next week, at which potential agreements on the country's nuclear program will be discussed. This is the first attempt in a long time to start direct negotiations between the United States and Iran in the context of the tension that has recently increased in the Middle East. According to Trump, the details of the negotiation process have not yet been finalized, but he noted that he does not rule out the possibility of signing a new nuclear agreement. At the same time, the president emphasized that for him, the issue of compliance with previously agreed obligations regarding obtaining guarantees that Iran's nuclear program will not be violated, as well as the destruction or significant weakening of existing nuclear facilities in this country is important at the moment. Trump emphasized that he personally gave the order to continue the policy of reducing Iran's nuclear potential. "I said: 'Iran will not have nuclear weapons.'" We are homologous, which was destroyed to the last detail. This means that today I am not particularly concerned about this aspect of the situation,” the American leader said. According to him, during the upcoming negotiations, the United States plans to demand from Iran the same obligations as before, or even stricter ones. At the same time, Trump added that during possible negotiations he does not rule out signing a new agreement, but does not consider it mandatory. “Maybe we will sign an agreement, maybe not - it depends on the situation that will develop during the negotiations. And although I do not consider it necessary, I am still open to dialogue,” the US president emphasized. Earlier, Trump stated about the serious damage suffered by Iran's nuclear facilities as a result of American strikes, noting that their entire nuclear infrastructure was destroyed. At the same time, he admitted that US intelligence services did not give an unambiguous assessment of the state of the Iranian nuclear program and the assessment of the situation remains a joint matter of experts. On the other hand, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio made a statement that after the US attacks, the Iranian nuclear program is at a stage of moving away from the possibility of creating nuclear weapons. He emphasized that Tehran has made a significant step towards deterring its nuclear potential under the influence of US actions, and now the main task is to maintain this progress in future negotiations. Thus, the situation around the Iranian nuclear program and potential negotiations with the US remains tense, but open to new diplomatic solutions, which could change the balance of power and strategies in the Middle East in the coming months.
