Russian shelling hits Nikopol region again: one injured, destruction and fires
A 12-hour wave of enemy shelling on June 24 covered the Nikopol district of the Dnipropetrovsk region, causing significant destruction, casualties and large-scale fires. According to the head of the regional state administration, Serhiy Lysak, a 74-year-old woman was injured in the attacks, who is currently undergoing outpatient treatment, and civilians have to deal with the consequences of the destruction left after the enemy strikes. The shelling affected several settlements, in particular the district center of Nikopol, as well as the Marhanetska, Myrivska, Chervonogryhorivska and Pokrovska communities. As a result of this attack, housing, administrative and infrastructure facilities were damaged. In particular, a high-rise building, several private houses, outbuildings were damaged, and the gas infrastructure was also disrupted. The explosions damaged a large gas pipeline, creating additional danger for local residents. In addition, the strikes sparked fires that engulfed a cafe in the center of Nikopol and a huge wheat field that was under fire. A large-scale fire broke out here, which rescue services fought for several hours in total to localize and prevent the fire from spreading to a larger area. This was another heavy blow to the local agricultural infrastructure, which is the main source of income for the region. In addition, damage to power lines was also recorded within the Velykymykhailivska community, which belongs to the Synelnyky district. The energy infrastructure suffered significant damage due to targeted strikes, which caused a temporary power outage in several settlements, as well as creating additional difficulties for local residents and local authorities in restoration work. Angry and tense residents of Nikopol and the surrounding villages are once again in a state of alarm and tension. They are forced to respond to the destruction and uncertainty, which is a new challenge for them. Local authorities and services are urgently working to assess the extent of the damage and prepare for further measures to restore the residential and infrastructure part of the region. The consequences of the night shelling highlight the level of aggression that Russian troops continue to use against peaceful communities in Ukraine, disregarding international norms and human lives. Local and state authorities call on the population to be careful, follow safety rules and not ignore alarm signals, as the situation remains complex and unstable.
