Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has made a statement that could be key to the ongoing conflict in the Middle East. According to him, Tehran will not intend to conduct active military action in the region if Israel stops its strikes on Iranian targets and stops its aggression. An official representative from the Ministry of Defense explained in a statement posted on the social network X (formerly Twitter) that no agreements have been reached on a ceasefire or cessation of hostilities yet. Araghchi’s quotes were loud: “As before, Iran claims that the war was started by Israel, not vice versa. At this time, there are no official agreements on a ceasefire or cessation of hostilities.” He also stressed that if Israel stops its “illegal aggression” against the Islamic Republic by 4 a.m. Tehran time, Tehran will consider ceasing its military operations. However, the final decision on ending the hostilities will be made later, the minister promised. Since the escalation of the conflict, Araghchi has made several important statements. First of all, he thanked the Iranian military for their efforts and strongly emphasized that military operations against Israel continued until the last minute, hinting that the armed forces may have already completed active combat operations. This could mark the end of the open conflict or its transition to a less tense phase. What preceded these events? Former US President Donald Trump reported in his statements about a false truce between Israel and Iran. He expressed hope that such a ceasefire regime will become long-term. According to international sources and media reports, Qatar played a mediating role in the process of concluding a temporary ceasefire, which was able to reach an agreement with the Israeli and Iranian sides on the basis of mutual consent. This created the basis for reducing the level of tension in the region and, possibly, for the resumption of diplomatic negotiations aimed at a long-term solution to the conflict. Peace initiatives have gained new momentum in recent days, but observers remain cautious. The main question now is whether Israel will take steps to stop its strikes, and whether Iran will be able to refrain from new military actions in order to avoid a wider escalation and international involvement. The answer to this is expected in the coming hours, as the situation remains tense and critical for the future of the region.
