The Head of the Security Service of Ukraine, Vasyl Malyuk, has announced new details about the third attack on the strategic Crimean bridge, which took place on June 3 of this year
According to him, Ukrainian special services carried out a fairly powerful and targeted strike on the key supports of the illegally erected structure, using a significant amount of explosives - 1,100 kilograms twice. This operation was a logical continuation of a series of efforts by Ukrainian intelligence and counterintelligence to neutralize objects of strategic importance for the Russian occupation authorities in Crimea. Malyuk reported this in an interview with the Interfax-Ukraine news agency, emphasizing the scale and importance of this operation. He emphasized that this was precisely the targeted destruction of the supporting structures of the bridge: “For the third time, we used 1,100 kg of explosives on the bridge and another 1,100 kg. That is, twice 1,100 kg on the key supports of the illegal structure on the territory of Ukraine. I cannot disclose additional details – for certain reasons. But I can assure you: this is the beginning of a new era.” His words confirm the high and purposeful preparation of the operation, which, according to the military man, has a deep strategic context. Malyuk also emphasized that this attack was the third in a series of strikes on the Crimean Bridge. According to him, Ukrainian special services acted at different times and with different means. Back in 2022, the special operation consisted of using a ground approach – a vehicle with 21 tons of TNT, which, according to him, was used to minimize risks, but at the same time demonstrated the scale and determination of the Ukrainian forces. The following year – in 2023 – sabotage actions were carried out using unmanned aerial vehicles such as SeaBaby, which unexpectedly attacked the bridge from the water. And a year later, in June 2025, a new underwater strike took place, indicating the gradual complication of tactics and the use of new types of weapons. “I can say only one thing for sure: together with the 13th Main Directorate of the SBU’s DVKR, we have begun a new era of maritime history,” Malyuk emphasized, hinting that Ukrainian special services had moved to a new level of conducting operations, actively using underwater and remote means to achieve strategic goals. What preceded this large-scale operation in June? On the morning of that day, the Security Service of Ukraine conducted a unique special operation, which for the first time completely focused on the underwater direction of attack. As part of this operation, Ukrainian forces used modern tactics and high-tech weapons to inflict maximum damage on the occupation forces and destroy a key facility that is a symbol of Russia’s occupation policy in Crimea. In general, the events surrounding the Crimean Bridge once again demonstrate that Ukrainian special services are waging a purposeful and highly technical struggle to liberate Ukrainian territories and destroy the enemy’s logistical arteries. They are constantly improving tactics, activating their resources and using all possible means to achieve strategic goals – in particular, the destruction of such symbols of the Russian empire and reducing the potential of the enemy’s military and logistical operations. The reaction of the Ukrainian authorities and the military to these operations remains restrained, but experts and military analysts note that such actions are a manifestation of strategic confidence and a high level of organization of the Ukrainian special services. At the same time, the international community is facing a new challenge – sabotage and terrorist acts that undermine the stability of the region and demonstrate Ukraine’s ability to act at the level of modern geopolitical conflicts. Thus, the June 3 operation was not just another episode in a series of military actions against occupied objects in Crimea, but a new main page in the history of Ukrainian special operations. It laid the foundation for further actions and showed that Ukrainian efforts in the fight for its independence and territorial integrity are not diminishing, but on the contrary, are gaining new scale and determination.
