On June 23, the country’s parliament approved a new government led by prominent pro-European politician Iliye Bolojan, former interim president and leader of the National Liberal Party. This political cadre has received the support of the majority of the parliamentary body, which indicates the coherence of the coalition forces and the country’s desire to move towards European values and reforms. According to official data, 310 deputies took part in the vote. Only nine of them voted against, while 301 deputies expressed confidence in Bolojan’s candidacy. At the same time, the far-right Alliance for the Unification of Romanians (AUR) disrupted the vote by boycotting it, remaining in the hall but refusing to support the candidacy. This decision indicates internal tensions and sharp political divisions in the country. After approval by parliament, the new government was to be sworn in at the presidential palace at 8:00 p.m. the same day, after which it would officially take office. The government consists of 16 ministers and several deputy prime ministers, among whom the positions of defense minister and foreign minister stand out. They were sworn in by representatives of the pro-European Union for the Salvation of Romania (USR) party, Ionuc Moșteanu and Oana Todi. This key political event was the result of long political consultations and efforts by the presidency. Earlier, President Nikușor Dan nominated Iliye Boloșanu for the top position in the Cabinet of Ministers, underlining his desire to lead the country through a period of change and stabilization. It is important to note that Boloșanu’s government is supported not only by representatives of pro-European forces, but also by a significant part of the parliamentary majority, which has over 60% of the votes. This support involves the cooperation of several political forces, including the Social Democratic Party, which is to replace Bolojan in the leadership position in 2027 under the terms of the coalition agreement. According to the agreement, the government must lead the country to stability and further development, taking into account European standards and reforms. This is an important step for strengthening Romania's positions in the international arena and for its integration aspirations into the European Union. Let us recall that the main contender for the post of Prime Minister was Iliye Bolojan, whose candidacy was supported by the country's president, given his experience and determination for institutional transformations. This political turn became a signal of change for society and partners from the European Union. From now on, the government will focus on internal reforms, the fight against corruption, the modernization of the public administration system and foreign policy challenges. In particular, the role of the Ministry of Defense and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in strengthening defense capabilities and intensifying diplomatic efforts in the region is emphasized. Therefore, the approval of the new government in Romania is not only an act of domestic politics, but also a signal of the unification of efforts towards European integration and reforms. This is a great responsibility for Iliye Bolozhan and his team, because the future steps will determine not only the political course of the country, but also its role on the international stage. Time will tell how much the new government will be able to implement ambitious plans and lead Romania on the path of stable development and integration.
