Informational blow: US confirms Iran’s missile strike on Qatar base
On Monday night, the US officially confirmed that Iranian forces launched a missile attack on its Al-Udeid air base in Qatar. At the same time, the US Department of Defense assured that there are currently no reports of casualties among American military or civilian personnel stationed at this strategic base. Information about the consequences of the attack appeared the day before, and the US military is trying to determine the extent and nature of the damage. According to a Pentagon representative, the attack was carried out by short- and medium-range missiles launched from Iranian territory. The consequences of this attack are currently under close monitoring, and the US military and intelligence are conducting an operational investigation of the situation. The Defense Ministry representative also said that if additional information is received, they will promptly make it public. Previously released information indicates that Iran responded to the US operation "Midnight Hammer" - a large-scale air attack, which was carried out with the participation of more than 125 aircraft against three Iranian nuclear facilities in the region. This operation of the US Air Force was aimed at destroying Iran's nuclear capabilities, in particular its potential nuclear programs, which caused a sharp escalation of the conflict. US Secretary of Defense Pete Haggett emphasized in his statement that Operation "Midnight Hammer" successfully reduced Iran's nuclear ambitions and dealt a significant blow to its programs. At the same time, the latest missile strikes from Iranian territory call into question the further development of the situation and may provoke a new wave of tension in the Middle East. The other day, experts and military analysts warned of the possibility of an escalation of the conflict between Iran and the US, given the intensification of shelling and the nature of both sides. For now, the US military is refraining from making large-scale statements and focusing on monitoring the situation and seeking additional information. Possible further steps by the military and diplomats will depend on developments in the region and the level of threat to the security of US interests in the region.
