Despite official condemnations, experts and diplomatic representatives emphasize the importance of restraint on both sides in order to prevent the escalation of the conflict and ensure the possibility of a diplomatic settlement. US Ambassador to NATO Matthew Whitaker, in his statement during the summit in The Hague, spoke about the latest events on Ukrainian territory. He noted that US President Donald Trump is deeply disappointed by the new round of Russian strikes on civilian objects in the country's major cities and populated areas. According to the diplomatic representative, Washington remains hopeful for a reduction in tensions and calls for restraint from all sides of the conflict. "President Trump is disappointed by these strikes during the mediation talks," the diplomat emphasized. "We call on both sides to exercise restraint and reduce the level of conflict in order to avoid further escalation of violence." However, he did not specify what exactly he means by "restraint" and what specific actions he expects from the parties to the conflict. Regarding the question of whether Trump believes that Russia seeks peace, Whitaker emphasized in his speech the condemnation of the Russian strikes. "I want to join the global condemnation of attacks on civilians in Ukraine and express my sincere condolences to the families of the victims, including an American citizen who died during one of the recent Russian missile attacks," the diplomat said. In general, in the context of recent events and the reaction of the international community, experts emphasize that for now the main thing is restraint and diplomacy - a disturbing signal, a sign that the armed conflict in its deep scale requires a particularly delicate and measured approach. According to preliminary data, the NATO Council and representatives of the European Union continue to work towards finding a compromise and preserving unity in the face of the threat of further escalation. As for the internal processes in the US, Whitaker had earlier noted that a decision on the official position of the NATO summit on the Russian invasion could be made in the near future. He confirmed that Donald Trump plans to participate in the summit, but only after a consensus is reached on a joint statement that would clearly reflect the position of Washington and the allies in relation to Russia and its aggression. So, while the war continues, international diplomatic circles emphasize the importance of restraint, dialogue and the search for a diplomatic solution to the conflict. At the same time, the attention of the world community is focused on further steps towards de-escalation of tensions and finding ways to stop Russia's aggression against Ukraine.
