Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has not remained indifferent to the situation surrounding the recent United States strikes on facilities related to Iran’s nuclear program, making an official comment on this event. In his statement, he emphasized that the modern world must act responsibly and avoid any proliferation of nuclear weapons, highlighting the importance of deterring nuclear conflict and the risks that threaten global security. The head of state reminded that Iran not only operates its own nuclear program but also actively supports Russian aggression against Ukraine — in particular, supplying Iranian-made weapons that Russia uses for attacks in our country. “We remember where Russia’s weapons come from, and it is precisely Iranian decisions to assist Moscow that have caused widespread destruction, human tragedies, and various losses both for Ukraine and many other countries around the world,” he said. Zelensky noted that events in the Middle East, including the American strikes on Iran’s nuclear facilities, should serve as a signal to all sides of the world: to stop racing for new military capabilities and to return to diplomacy. “Currently, a new wave of drone strikes with 'Shahed' drones is underway, and we know that this type of weapon originates from Iran. At this point, we understand that it is necessary to cease cooperation with these states to prevent further destruction and human casualties,” he emphasized. The Ukrainian president also stressed the global importance of diplomatic solutions. “Diplomacy must be promoted everywhere — in the Middle East, in the Gulf region, in Europe, and, of course, in Ukraine. If Russia rejects all peaceful proposals, including American ones, then the Iranian authorities and leadership must also feel the value of international solidarity and recognize the unacceptable spread of terrorist methods,” Zelensky added. The process leading up to these events was very tense. Ukraine’s Foreign Ministry voiced its firm position on the necessity to halt Iran’s nuclear program so that it no longer poses a threat to the Middle East region and the world’s provinces overall. The US operation, codenamed "Midnight Hammer," took place on the night of June 22, involving over 125 American aircraft, including seven modern B-2 stealth bombers. The US Department of Defense reported that the outcome of this special operation was the destruction of Iran’s nuclear ambitions, a key focus in Washington’s strategy. US Defense Secretary P. G. Hagset noted that the operation represented an important step toward eliminating nuclear threats from Iran and contributed to overall global security. However, this event should not be perceived with unilateral enthusiasm, as it underscores the need for further diplomatic resolution of conflicts and the reduction of tensions in regions threatened by nuclear programs. In light of recent events and in the context of Ukrainian-Iranian and Russian relations, it remains crucial to remember that preventing the proliferation of nuclear weapons is not only a global imperative but also the responsibility of every accountable state. This will help stabilize the international situation somewhat and reduce the risk of new catastrophic conflicts, which Ukraine currently faces so acutely.
